KNOWLEDGE BASE

Why was my mobile check deposit returned?

A mobile check deposit can show approved in your mobile check deposit history and later be rejected during processing. This happens when we attempt to collect the funds but can’t do so.

If this happens, the reason it was returned is available on the U.S. Bank Mobile App. Examples include, but aren't limited to:

  • Refer to Maker: This means the financial institution that issued the check has declined to honor it. And you’re being referred to the person or merchant who wrote the check to you (the “maker”). Contact the maker for more information.
  • Insufficient funds: The financial institution that issued the check said the account doesn’t have enough funds to pay it.
  • Stop payment: There’s a stop payment blocking the check from being honored.
