U.S. Bank supports Hawaii relief efforts alongside Collin Morikawa

August 14, 2023

U.S. Bank will provide a $50,000 donation to the Maui United Way

PGA Tour golfer Collin Morikawa is stepping up to aid relief and recovery efforts on Maui, Hawaii, which suffered extensive wildfires last week – and U.S. Bank is here to help, too.

As Morikawa, whose grandparents once owned a restaurant in the Maui town of Lahaina that was hit by the fires, plans to donate $1,000 for each birdie and $2,000 for each eagle he makes in the FedEx Cup Playoffs (Aug. 10-27), U.S. Bank also will donate $50,000 in support. The funds will go to the Maui United Way, which is providing direct relief to families and nonprofits affected by the wildfires.

Morikawa made 15 birdies and one eagle in last week’s first playoff event in Memphis, Tennessee. The playoffs continue Aug. 17-21 outside Chicago before concluding Aug. 24-27 in Atlanta.

“Our hearts go out to the people of Maui, all of Hawaii and those who have lost so much in the wildfires,” said Reba Dominski, chief social responsibility officer at U.S. Bank and president of the U.S. Bank Foundation. “We are proud of Collin’s leadership in funding recovery efforts and we are pleased to increase the impact with a $50,000 donation.”

Additionally, U.S. Bank is working with the American Red Cross in the Pacific Northwest to help people impacted by the wildfires. U.S. Bank branches in Washington and Oregon are collecting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross. U.S. Bank is a committed member of the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program and donates $167,000 annually to the organization’s Disaster Response Fund.

This isn’t the first time U.S. Bank and Morikawa have teamed up to support their communities. With Morikawa’s birdie challenge, U.S. Bank donates five memberships to Youth on Course for each birdie the golfer makes during the 2023 PGA Tour regular season and playoffs. Youth on Course offers access to rounds of golf for $5 or less at nearly 2,000 participating courses nationwide, and also helps young people with job training and college scholarships.
