Angela Sayre’s day job at the bank helps safeguard customers, and she also uses those skills to protect Florida’s vulnerable hermit crabs
Angela Sayre, vice president compliance program and control manager at U.S. Bank, in 2019 created a non-profit dedicated to hermit crab conservation and rehabilitation in the Florida Keys. Her organization aims to bring awareness of wild shell shortages due to tourists taking intact shells home from beaches.
“When you’re on vacation and walking on the beach and pick up an empty shell, that shell is actually a house for a hermit crab that they will never be able to find,” she said. “I kind of came up with a little motto: leave the shell, take the memory.”
