(September 13, 2021) – U.S. Bank announces plans to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by paying tribute to the vibrant culture, traditions and trajectories of the Hispanic community in artistic ways including support of Latinx artists and Hispanic-serving organizations.
Art for the wallet
U.S. Bank customers can now proudly connect with the Hispanic culture with U.S. Bank’s new Visa® Debit Card design entitled “Nuestra Herencia” (Our Heritage), which launches this month just in time to celebrate cultural pride. The card’s artwork was created by visual designer Flora Rees-Arredondo, an up-and-coming young Latinx artist whose work is rooted in Latino tradition yet feels fresh and modern. The affinity card’s artwork is a contemporary take on ancient Mesoamerican cities such as Teotihuacán, reimagined as a timeless cityscape where Hispanic heritage continues to flourish, such as in Los Angeles and San Jose, two towns Rees-Arredondo has recently called home.
“My artwork is for every Latinx or biracial individual who has ever felt lost or unheard,” Rees-Arredondo explains. “My art is about challenging social norms and presenting artwork that makes you think about the world around you. I’m happy that U.S. Bank will make a bit of these values available to carry with us, as a reminder of where we’ve come from, and a reinforcement of where we desire to go in the future."

“Celebrating the rich history and heritage of the Hispanic community is so important to our customers, employees and communities,” said Greg Cunningham, chief diversity officer for U.S. Bank. “This year we are grateful for our partnership with Flora. Her talent is incredible, and she uses it to empower others through her work. We at U.S. Bank are proud to support her and help power her potential, and are personally committed to supporting our Hispanic employees, customers and communities.”
Art for the people
U.S. Bank is also proud to support The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum (RAM). Commonly referred to as “The Cheech,” the center will be dedicated to showcasing Chicano art and culture. The Cheech Marin Center is slated to open May 8, 2022. U.S. Bank has a longstanding relationship with RAM in which U.S. Bank offers support through board service and grant funding, including a capital campaign donation to establish a U.S. Bank film-screening room inside The Cheech. The $150,000 multi-year commitment is intended to help support the burgeoning interests of talented filmmakers and audio-visual artists in the Inland Empire. The U.S. Bank donation will facilitate storytelling as a profound means of expression, a special imperative for peoples of historically marginalized voices. The museum also offers an Artist in Residence program, set to beautify and empower local neighborhoods through vibrant public art.
